How Calendar Age is Actually Calculated
“Years, months, days” sounds simple but hides a subtlety: months have different lengths. This tool uses the standard civil convention — count whole years first, then whole months, then leftover days measured from the anchor date. When the birth day-of-month doesn’t exist in a target month (born January 31, measuring in March), the anchor clamps to the end of February, giving “1 month, 1 day” from January 31 to March 1. This matches how official date calculators and legal age reckoning work.

Is my date of birth stored anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing is transmitted or saved.
What about people born on February 29?
Leap-day babies get their exact birthday every four years. In non-leap years, this tool follows the most common civil convention and counts March 1 as the birthday occurrence for the “next birthday” countdown. (Some jurisdictions use February 28 for legal purposes — both conventions exist.)
Why does the months part differ from other calculators by a day?
Because months have unequal lengths, there are two defensible conventions for the “borrow” when the day-of-month doesn’t fit. Differences only appear for month-end birth dates and are at most a day or two; the total days figure is exact in every calculator.
Can I calculate the time between any two dates, not just ages?
Yes — put the earlier date in “Date of birth” and the later date in “Age at date”. The result is the exact elapsed time between them, which works for project durations, anniversaries, or historical intervals.
How is "days until next birthday" computed?
It finds the next occurrence of your birth month and day after the reference date and counts the days between. If the reference date is the birthday, it shows the full year until the next one.
Does it account for time zones?
Dates are interpreted in your local calendar, which is what birthdays mean in practice. Since the tool works in whole days, time-of-day and timezone subtleties don’t affect the result.
